Advert Analysis 'Pigs'

Codes & Conventions: What techniques does the ad use to persuade the audience to consume the Guardian?

The techniques that are being used throughout the ad to persuade the audience to consume the guardian is the way it is laid out, it has included the story as the pigs as many people (the audience) have seen or know the story of this. It has low key lighting to set the mood and build tension on what is going to happen as it creates suspense and mystery which is said by Barthes. The ad uses different voice overs by the audience who are giving their opinion about the case, voice overs gives the audience an explanation on what is happening on the clip.

Representation: How is the news represented in the ad?

This represents the guardian by the way it promotes all the three platforms like print, media and broadcast and this can be implied by the way it is shown throughout the video as it has clips of newspapers, laptops, I pads, youtube clips and phones of people (the audience) of how they feel about the ‘pigs’ getting arrested, however it changes the values of the platforms as they and informing and educating the audience. Trailer Analysis Homework

What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?
The movie ‘the vow’ creates different moods by the way it uses different type of sounds and this can be shown when the begging is all happy and later on it builds up tension when the women doesn’t remember her husband. This film was released on Valentine’s Day which targets the audience who would be probably females as well as couples who are going out for Valentine’s Day. Throughout the trailer it uses bright lighting which lets the audience see what is happening through the movie. It has enigma codes as this creates suspense at the end of the trailer when another guy is involved; this gives the audience an idea that the main character might like another guy, even though she is married to ‘Channing Tatum’. This persuades the audience by the way the film has a good looking guy who is Channing Tatum; many females find him attractive so this gives another reason for the audience to watch this.

2012 Oscars - The Dictator

The extract is a video from the Oscars of a guy who is from the film that is releasing soon called ‘Dictator’, this shows that he is promoting his movie and wants the audience to watch this. However Dictator is meant a person who is a ruler and has control over the government and the way he is dressed it indicates that he is powerful. The lighting that has been used throughout the video is high key lighting and this is for the audience to pay attention and to see what is happening. The clothing that has been used is like a general of an army. This film is shown to be a comedy of the way that he is speaking and the incident that has happened with the presenter.

Ethnicity is represented in different ways and this is by the way the ‘Dictator’ is a general is talking and acting different from people around him as they are Americans. The dictator is a male which stereotypes how men are mostly the generals. The clip is typical of the Hollywood film industry as they have promoted their movie on the Oscars as they know that many people will be watching this so it gives them a chance to help promote their movie. This helps with the marketing and publicity of the movie as they are reaching to the audience.

This promotes to help the film to the audiences as he is dressed in the same clothes as he will be in the film, which shows that this is how I am and will be in the film, it gives an idea of what is included in the film to the audience. The funny scene where the dictator drops the powder on the presenter shows the film will include comedy as also the way he is speaking as this helps to promote their movie.

Websex- Whats the harm Questions!

Mostly a song is being played and on top of that is a voiceover of the women Nathalie Emmanuel who is investigating how internet is changing the sex lives of teenagers and adults. The images and the information that Nathalie Emmanuel has investigated shows the amount of people who use the internet for their sex lives across Britain today. The props that are used for the documentary is the laptops that are being used to show how internet changes the sex lives of 16years old – 24years. In the beginning many lightings are been used such as a Back light. The dominant images are mostly of the teenagers and adults that are using the internet for sex lives, and uploading nude pictures of them to attract other individuals.

The assumptions about the audience that are made is that it could suggest that all teenagers and adults are like this about their sex lives and it could be a bad influence on other people. The audience might react to the text by thinking that all the teenagers and adults are doing this by the way many people nowadays have social network sites where pictures can be posted and anyone could be added which sets a negative impact on people these days.

The audience that will be watching this would be 16 and over which will target them as the documentary is about their age group. It talks about the ways social network sites are being used to accept random people that are ‘good looking’ .The target audience is both genders from the age 16 to 24 years old, who use social network sites and who have mobile phones which gives them a chance to interact with each other, which is shown on the documentary.

This belongs to reality as the way everything that is being shown is slightly true because many people do use the internet and this changes their sex life, however this is also documentary with what the investigation is being showed. The values and assumptions behind this text shows how teenagers and young adults are shown and are accepting sex before marriage which was not suitable back in the days, This shows how everything has been changing as well as teenagers with their sex life.

'Technophobes'

BBC Three is launching a new program called “Technophobes”, following the lives of five people who are afraid of technology.

Audience

This would appeal to the age group which is 16-30 years old as many teenagers and adults like to watch programs that are educational which gives the audience a chance to know about the technology today and the reason why 5 people are afraid of them, which makes the program more interesting, this would target both of the genders. C1,C2 is the socio-economic  class that will be targeted at.

Institution

This show is on BBC three; it is most likely to be shown in the mornings or afternoons but before 9pm, as this is targeted at teenagers, and after 9pm the programs will not be targeted at groups of families and children as the programs will include swearing and sexual intercourse or reference, as well as drugs and violence.

Media Forms

The types of programs that are likely to be shown are mostly documentaries and this can be shown on the channel and the way it has been shown. After the documentary is finished, it is edited and has a voice over which talks about other related facts about the documentary.

Representation

I think that this program will not be watched by many people as not everyone watch programs talking about the technology. This is a negative aspect as not many people would review this.

How can 5 people be scared of the technology, the first episode showed people who were scared of technology and this included laptops, The man named 'James' was scared of using a laptop which is totally weird as he know writes everything on paper and if he does need someone to type letters or emails, he would ask his wife or even friends to do this. I learnt a lot about the technology that was being used even the technology that i was not quite sure of, i completely understand which is so useful for me as I have gained a lot of information.

types of Documentary's

There are 6 different types of documentary and these can include:

Poetic documentaries- this was first appeared in the 1920’s, the poetic mode moved away from the editing and started to organise images of the material world by the means of associations and patterns and this was both within the terms of time and space. The films were lyrical and fragmentary.

Expository documentaries- this documentary speaks directly to the viewer often from the form of a confident explanation of the employing voiceover and titles, where there would propose for a strong argument and point of the view. This type of films is rhetorical and tries to persuade the viewer. There would usually use a rich and male voice.

Observational documentaries- the filmmakers that work for this type of sub-genre often saw the poetic mode as why it is abstract and the expository mode is too educational. The films aimed for juxtaposition, confidence and the expose of the individual human character in the normal life situations.

Participatory documentaries- this documentary believe that it’s impossible for the act of filmmaking to not influence or alter the events of being filmed. What these films do is compete with the approach of the anthropologist: participant-observation. Not only is the filmmaker part of the film, we also get a sense of how situations in the film are affected or altered by her presence
Reflexive documentaries – this type of documentary don’t see themselves as a transparent window on the world, however their draw attention to their own construction and the fact they are representations. This documentary lets us see what it is and how we are seeing it.
Performative documentaries- this gives emotional response to the world, as they have a strongly personal, perhaps poetic and experimental events designed to make us experience what it might be like for us to possess certain perspectives of the world that is not our own, for example this can include ethnic minorities, gay and lesbians.
